Update 3 – Magic Moments

Sousse

Sousse was the area our resort, The Riadh Palms, was based in and the people in the hotel were nice. Women did give us dirty looks but that’s to be expected! A random person on the beach asked if I was black and if BG was from the gulf? Errrrrrr ok!

One day we ventured into the centre of Sousse were we purchased some gifts from the Soula Centre – a huge gift shop which is probably Tunisia’s version of John Lewis.

In Sousse was the Medina where the locals had stalls selling almost everything! Food, fake goods, fish, oranges, cd’s – everything under the sun! People kept asking us if we were Indian and when we said we were the locals usually started expressing their love for a particular Indian actor, the legend that is, Mr Amitabh Bachchan! amazing how he can touch so many people! We heard one guy’s fave Indians films were Ajooba and Mard. People were friendly although some could be a little pervy. There was a fort there too but we weren’t sure how to get into it!

Sousse by night

There were a few clubs in Sousse but as the locals seemed a little…errr….over friendly we decided not to venture out much at night but one night we did go for a meal. The restaurant we chose was called ‘Bypass.’ We were greeted by a lovely waiter who called himself ‘Chocolate’ (because he was sweet like chocolate).

BG and I shared Brik for starters and I had grilled chicken and veg/chips for mains and BG had a huge Cous cous special which we could’ve probably shared! Only came up to 30 dinars which is about £15! Bargain-a-licious! There were some other restaurants/bars in the area Banana/Queen/Taj Mahal but we only went to Bypass.

Some pics for your pleasure…

Massive Shisha!

Port El Kantaoui

About 10 minutes from Sousse was the area of Port El Kantaoui which is a more relaxed, tourist, European catered for part of Tunisia. It has lots of shops restaurants, places for Shisha, Marina, Zoo and Hannibal Park.

We jumped on a Noddy Train (literally) from Sousse for 3 dinars return for a 10 minute journey which took us into Port el Kantaoui where we wandered around the Marina and looked at the boats, I bought some fake Mont Blanc pens, nougat, sesame snaps, dates, had a beer and a massive shisha and the most wonderful home cooked-style chips.. A lovely place to just hang out and relax. For the kids there is a theme park called Hannibal Park (we were a bit wary of it due to the name, however, it pretty looked safe)

Indeed some Magic Moments, More to follow! x

Update 2 -Safari Park, Zulu Evening & Quad biking

Our lovely rep Karim who had amazing English and was alright looking for a Tunisian bloke talked us into visiting a safari park. There would be a South African Zulu show with a 4 course meal so he didn’t need to talk us much into it! We wanted to check out the local areas and sites and I cannot say no to a 4 course meal.

The Safari Park was really lovely saw some amazing Pink Flamingo’s and other wild animals and I had my second ever camel ride,  BG was a bit traumatised by being ‘man-handled’ onto the camel however we made it on and off the camels without exposing ourselves too much.

The Zulu show was a completely cultural experience. There were traditional Zulu dances and singing, Belly Dancers and an opportunity to play music with the Zulu singers which I grabbed with both hands. The 4 course meal was full of Tunisian specialities. I developed quite a liking for a local delicacy called Brik which is similar to a big Samosa but thinner, wider and was filled with Tuna and vegetables. Yum yum need to find a restaurant that serves those! Any suggestions?

At the ended we all danced together and reluctantly made our way back to Sousse. On the coach we befriended this lovely ‘Aunty and Uncle’ (indian people call all elders aunty and uncle they don’t know…haha) they were lovely and were very happy to learn we were Indian (‘oooooohhhh’ was their reactions when we told them). At reaching the hotel we ate again (blame the food for the weight gain during the week).

The next day, after the Safari Park and Zulu Evening, we embarked on the adventure of quad biking and what an adventure it was. Up some remote dirt beaten tracks and on main roads where cars were flying at us from each and every direction. Madness!

The guide guy who was leading the quad bikes I think had developed a little liking for BG and I and gave us his phone number and said ‘lets go clubbing’! Clearly, we did not phone him and pretended we were 19 year old sisters and our parents would not be happy for us gallivanting with strangers – mmmm!

We were quad biking for 2 hours and so we took hourly turns at driving. My driving left a lot to be desired and the guide kept calling me ‘crazy driver, crazy driver’ and asking me to slow down but I was really enjoying giving BG a heart attack haha! None the less we did make it back in one piece after a little stop off for a Coca-Cola and Boga (the Tunisian version of Sprite) – I apologise BG for nearly killing you, Love you xx

After quad biking I felt I had more dust on me than one of the trees we had seen on the beaten paths so settled down for an afternoon of reading by the pool.

Thats enough for now so enjoy a few pics…. more to come soon x

Holiday Update – 1

Apologies for the lateness in the first blog post after my return from my holidays… (seems like every work email I have written over the last couple of days has begun “Apologies for the delay in replying”)

Ok so my holiday begun like this…. BG and I had a little all nighter as our flight took off at 7.15am from East Midlands airport. Had a lovely brekkie at EMA yum yum!

So we arrive at our hotel, The Riadh Palms, and were made to wait about 3 hours before our room was finally ready and even though everything the receptionist said was with a smile I was still sooo annoyed and just wanted to freshen up! Finally we got our room high up on the 6th floor and it was worth the wait… the room was meant for 5 people so was huuuuuuuge! We had an amazing view of the sea! So was lovely to wake up to the sounds of crashing waves and sparkling views…

Locals were nice although some of the women gave us dirty looks (clearly jealous of our beauty haha) and some of the men were slightly pervy but ah well might aswell enjoy the attention as I aint gettin much of that here!

The first day we headed straight for the Serenity Spa where we were SCRRUBBED and when I say SCRUBBED I mean SCOURED like a Brillo Pad scours a saucepan. We then sat in a Tunisian steam room with dirty men for about half an hour and then had some seaweed mask put all over my body I had ‘everything’ massaged by a very smiley woman! It was lovely and I felt like a glowing Princess afterwards

Anyway thats enough for today.. another update will follow maybe in a few days

PS, I have tanned but I dont feel as glowing as I did… pooooo!

PPS, I’ve attached a pic of me in my Matalan/Sarah Jessica Parker Dress which I have previously blogged about so you can see the lady in action – by the way both cocktails are not mine! ;-)

Adios x

I’m back!

Hey everyone

I am back from my adventures in Tunisia….. just about! Still haven’t recovered even though there was no time difference… I am going to tell you about the adventures over the next 5 days as there is a lot to tell so let me tell you this for now.

On our return journey the doom and gloom of the ash cloud totally freaked us out! The night before my  holiday buddy BG had a BBM saying the ask cloud  was back! 10 minutes before take off I had a call from my friend MJ telling us East Midlands airport was closed from 1pm-7pm and our flight was due to take off at 1140am! The pilot then informed us we would be flying to Newcastle, which is a fair distance from East Midlands airport! An hour later we were told we’d be flying to Stansted which we thought wasn”t too bad but we finally ended up  at Birmingham airport – (now landing there, that was an experience!) finally a coach arrived to pick us up and took us to East Mids… but i’m back…and I was told I was missed a little which made me smile…

I have uploaded pictures to my Facebook so you can check them out here: http://www.facebook.com/#!/album.php?id=512483117&aid=177387&s=0&hash=48cf988bebdbb9e885231523b7df507b
